Entry into the real estate profession takes preparation. Prior to being sponsored by a licensed real estate broker, New York State requires all agents to be over the age of 18, be a permanent resident of the United States have no felony offenses (some exemptions), complete a 75-hour licensing course from an accredited school and pass the New York State Real Estate Licensing Exam. Agents are also required to complete 22.5 hours of continuing education every 2 years.
There are several schools in the region that offer the licensing courses in both classroom style and online. The approximate fee for these courses and books varies between $300 and $400. Please contact us for a list of local schools.
Once you complete the licensing course and pass the exam, you’ll need to be sponsored by a real estate broker and will be required to become a member of the Board of Realtors / Multiple Listing Service (MLS).
